What's the weather like in Wellington?
Summer
Families and friends in search of a sunny holiday should consider booking flights Invercargill to Wellington in January or February. Historically, these tend to be the city’s warmest months and daytime temperatures average around 21°C. At night, temperatures hover around 14°C or 15°C. The summer days are warmer and longer, which makes it a popular time of year to book flights to Wellington Airport (WLG), so it may be worth booking in advance to secure your seats. If you’re travelling with children, remember to pack sunscreen and hats to cover up from the sun. There are usually only around 5 or 6 days of rain per month during summer so it’s a good time to travel if you want to avoid the rain.
Autumn
New Zealand is well known for its fairly unpredictable weather and that’s certainly still true when it comes to Wellington. While autumn tends to be warm for the most part - with average temperatures of around 19°C in March dropping to 17°C in April - you are more likely to encounter cloudy and overcast days. It isn’t until May though that temperatures really begin to dip. By then, you can expect highs of 14°C and lows of 9°C. If the weather isn’t a factor in your decision of when to book Invercargill to Wellington flights though, you might be able to get cheap ones in autumn and avoid the crowds.
Winter
There are approximately 10 days of rain a month in Wellington during winter. Average temperatures during the day are 12°C from June until the end of August and 7°C at night. If you’re willing to pack an extra couple of layers, winter can be a good time to book cheap flights from Invercargill to Wellington, avoid the crowds and get seats at the best restaurants.
Spring
Thanks to the city’s many parks and wildlife sanctuaries, spring in Wellington is a particularly beautiful season. The average temperature in September is 14°C, 15°C in October and 17°C in November so it’s still not very warm, but you’ll be able to avoid the crowds that tend to come in summer and stay cool while you’re out sightseeing.
