Public transport is available from central Christchurch to the airport, offering an affordable journey. Both the Purple Line bus and bus route 29 have stops at Christchurch Airport (CHC). You can catch the Purple Line from several major stops, including the Bus Interchange, Ferry Road, and the University at Ilam Road. Bus 29 picks up passengers from the Bus Interchange as well as Fendalton. One-way fare for each of these buses costs $8.50 NZD, and return tickets cost $15 NZD.

How to Get from Wellington Airport (WLG) to Your Wellington Hotel or Accommodation

For a quick and affordable trip into the centre of Wellington, you can catch the city’s Airport Flyer bus outside of arrivals at the airport. The bus departs every 20 minutes and will get you to the city centre in less than a half hour. The Airport Flyer stops at some of the major stops in the Wellington CBD, including Lambton Quay, Willis Street, and Courtenay Place. A one-way ticket on the Airport Flyer bus costs $9 NZD.

Walk 10 minutes from Wellington Airport (WLG) to the corners of Broadway and Hobart Streets in Miramar to catch a public bus into the city. Take bus route 2, which travels to Courtenay Place and Lambton Quay in the CBD. This bus typically costs $5 NZD, but if you use a Snapper transport card, you can travel into the city for $2.81 NZD.

For the quickest trip to your hotel, you can catch a taxi from Wellington Airport (WLG). A taxi will get you to the city in 15-20 minutes for about $30 to $40 NZD.

Explore the Waterfront


With its location on Wellington Harbour, the city centre of Wellington has a beautiful waterfront area. It’s the perfect spot to go for a scenic walk. There are several walking trails you can take through Zealandia. Mount Victoria Lookout


For one of the best views over central Wellington, head to the top of Mount Victoria, which is right outside the city centre. You can take a bus to the top or take a quick, but steep hike up the hill. From the summit of Mount Victoria, you’ll be rewarded with a view of the entire Wellington CBD, the harbour, and the hills that surround the city. If you’re a morning person, the view from Mount Victoria is especially special at sunrise.

The Weta Studios
