Flight Guide from Cairns to Krabi
Need to know
Krabi is a bustling tourist town situated along the banks of Krabi River, on the southwest coast of Thailand. Krabi is one of the oldest settlements in Thailand and has become renowned for its natural attractions.
Venture west and stroll along the white sandy beaches of Phra Nang Beach and Railay Beach, the latter of which is considered one of the best rock-climbing destinations in the world. Those looking for adventure can climb 1,237 steps to reach the spectacular summit of Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple); alternatively, immerse yourself in the lush scenery of Krabi Province by tackling the Tab Kak Hang Nak Hill Nature Trail.
Krabi Town also makes a great base for exploring the nearby islands of Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Koh Tao. Take a day trip, or book a one-way boat ride to spend some time snorkelling, hiking, diving, swimming, and soaking up the beauty of the Andaman Sea.
Getting Around
Most transport options in Krabi are cheap and cheerful, provided you don’t expect a deluxe service. Colour-coded songthaew are usually the cheapest and most convenient option for travelling in or out of town; the 18 kilometre journey from Krabi to Ao Nang will cost just 60 baht in one of these small local buses. Songthaew drivers will also let you stop anywhere along the route, and you can even flag them down from the side of the road. Standard taxis offer a similar service, but with a price hike to match the extra comfort. Within Krabi Town, riding on the back of a motorcycle taxi is the quickest and cheapest way to get around, provided you have the nerves for it. Those looking to travel independently can hire a motorbike for around 250 baht per day, while those seeking a safer, family-friendly option can find rental cars starting at 1200 baht per day.
