Explore the city by foot. Edinburgh is compact in size, making it easy to see it's top attractions without spending a dime on public transportation. But if you get tired or the weather changes for the worst, there are plenty of options to get you around the city.
Take the bus. A trip around town usually costs GBP 1.60, and you can buy a one-week Ridacard pass for GBP 18.
Use the tram to get from the airport to the city centre. It stops at many points of interest, including Princess Street and St Andrews Square. Fares start at GBP 1.60 and can be purchased from any tram station.
Hail a taxi. If you're catching a ride between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. you'll pay a base fare of GBP 2.10. However, at night there is a surcharge and prices go up to GBP 3.10 for each kilometre.
Hire a car. Driving in Edinburgh is challenging for first-time visitors due to the many one-way and pedestrian-only streets, but if you need a vehicle, you'll find rental desks at the airport and in the city centre.
