Flight Guide from Cairns to Dusseldorf

Know Before You Go

  • Visit Dusseldorf's Old Town if you are a beer connoisseur. The streets are called the "longest bar in the world" and have more than 260 drinking dens. Plus, the city even has its own beer that you can try as well.
  • If you are looking to do some high-end shopping while in town, go to the Konigsallee. You'll find boutiques from the world's top and upcoming designers. Or for something more affordable, head to Carlstadt for its art, beautiful 18th-century buildings and its food market.
  • For winter sports lovers, visit Jever Skihalle. It's Germany's first snowdome and comes with a 330-meter long slope, toboggan run and a four-star hotel.
  • If you want to save money on sightseeing, buy the Dusseldorf WelcomeCard. It costs EUR 9 for a 24-hour pass, and you'll get free entry to museums, sights as well as the city's extensive public transport system.

Getting Around Dusseldorf

  • The best way to get around Dusseldorf is with it's public transport system. The bus, tramway and subway go to most of the city's attractions and makes sightseeing easy, reliable and affordable. Tickets cost EUR 1.60 for a short trip that's valid for 30 minutes or EUR 2.50 for a normal 90-minute pass. Day tickets are also available at EUR 5.90.
  • For travellers on a budget, you can save money by walking. Dusseldorf's city centre is not large, and most of its sights are within walking distance. Or you could rent a bicycle for the day. Rates start at EUR 13 with an EUR 50 deposit.
  • You can hail a taxi from the street, go to one of the taxi ranks or ask your hotel to call ahead. Dusseldorf's 1,300 fleet of taxis are modern, clean and offer good value for money. Rates start at EUR 5 and increase by EUR 2.20 for every kilometre.
  • If you want to rent a car, prices start at EUR 46 from the airport. But keep in mind, if you drive in the city centre you will need to have a sticker showing the car's pollution category.
