Know Before You Go

Getting Around Casablanca

• One of the cheapest ways to get around Casablanca is with the tram. It's a 31 km line that connects the centre of the city to the main neighbourhoods. The tram runs from 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every ten minutes seven days a week. A one-way ticket costs MAD 6, and it takes 60 to 70 minutes to ride the entire line.
• Casablanca's bus system is another affordable public transportation option. You can download the bus routes for Google Maps from the app store, and it costs about MAD 5 for a single trip.

The city has two kinds of taxis that you can choose from:

• The Red Taxi is a shared service that is a fast way to move around town. Fares start at MAD 2 and increase by MAD 0.20.
• The White Taxi is more like a bus. It has a set route and a set price. It can be a faster option than a bus, but it only leaves once full. The fare for a single trip is MAD 6.

When is The Best Time to Visit Casablanca?

If you want to avoid the heat of summer, visit Casablanca during spring. From March to May, temperatures start to rise with average highs of 20°C. It's the perfect weather for exploring the city on foot and other outdoor activities. It's also the best time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds that plague the city in peak season. You'll be able to visit many of the city's best museums and attractions without waiting in long queues.

From July to September, temperatures rise to 26°C, and the sun stays out for a full 12 hours a day. The summer season is also the driest time of year, keeping humidity levels low despite the higher temperatures. But the warm weather attracts hordes of tourists for the European summer break driving up hotel and flight prices.

Autumn is an excellent choice for travellers who want to skip the summer crowds and still enjoy the warm weather before winter begins. Temperatures remain at an average of 26°C, and once school starts again, the city empties out. You'll also have better luck finding deals on hotels, but make sure you pack some light layers for the cooler night time temperatures.

Winter is low season in Casablanca. From December to February, temperatures reach a daily high of 18°C dropping to 10°C in the evenings. It's also the start of rainy season, and with it, humidity levels are at their highest. But if you don't mind the occasional shower, it's one of the cheapest times to visit. Hotel rates are at their lowest, and you'll have the city's attractions to yourself.

Airports in Casablanca

Mohammed V International Airport

Mohammed V is the main international airport serving Casablanca. It's the fourth busiest airport in Africa and serves under 8 million passengers a year. The airport is a hub for the country's flag carrier Royal Air Maroc as well as Jetairfly, Air Arabia Maroc and RAM Express.

Getting To and From Mohammed V International Airport

The cheapest way to get from the airport to the city centre is on the train. It's located on level -1 in the arrivals area and runs from 03:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day. Journey time is around 30 minutes, and a single trip costs MAD 30.

There is also a bus run by CTM that operates between the airport and Casablanca. The buses run every 45 minutes and take one hour to reach the city centre. Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia offer bus transfers to neighbouring cities as well.

If you want to take a taxi, you'll find the fleet waiting at level 0 of the arrivals area. Taxis are available 24 hours a day and cost about MAD 290 one way.
