Artistic and historic, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Founded in 1630, Boston is a centre of arts and culture, known for its historic buildings, museums and galleries. It’s a city of many ‘firsts’, home to the the United States’ first public park, public school and subway system.
Locals of ‘Beantown’ are understandably proud of their city and its heritage, as well as its diversity; it’s a city with 23 distinct neighbourhoods, the cultures of which are influenced by their sizeable Irish, Italian, West Indian and Caribbean populations.
Boston was the setting for many key events of the American Revolution, including the Boston Tea Party. Visit Faneuil Hill, one of the United States’ most visited tourist destinations, a significant stop along Boston's ‘Freedom Trail’. A marketplace and meeting hall since 1743, it was the site of many famous pro-independence speeches. Today, it’s home to a thriving shopping and dining precinct.
The list of must-visit galleries, museums and historical points of interest is lengthy, but if you’re pressed for time, stop by the Museum of Fine Arts and the New England Aquarium to start with. Boston is also somewhat of a culinary gem, famous for its seafood, especially lobster and their rich clam chowder, Boston cream pie (a custard-filled sponge cake glazed with chocolate), and Boston baked beans. If you get chance, head to Fenway Park to catch a baseball game and chow down on a ‘Fenway Frank’.

The locals call their transport service the ‘T’, and its operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. There are over 100 stations and 1000 bikes available to use with a range of membership options from an annual membership to a 24-hour pass.
Summer is a great time to visit Boston. Although there are lots of tourists throughout the peak season months of June to August, temperatures are high and there are a range of festivals, baseball games and outdoor concerts to enjoy across the city. The shoulder months of September and October are also a great time to visit with fewer tourists around and temperatures remaining moderately high.
