Flight Guide from Auckland to Barcelona

What are Barcelona's most famous landmarks and monuments?

La Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia is one of the most visited attractions by travellers buying flights to Barcelona. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is an architectural wonder - and it's not finished yet! Construction on the church started on 19 March 1882, and it's predicted it won’t be completed until 2026 or 2028. If you're looking for the best view of the outside of La Sagrada Familia for your holiday happy-snaps, head to Plaça de Gaudi. But don't miss out on seeing inside the church for yourself - it is one of the must-do experiences in Barcelona. The light coming through the glass-stained windows is magical, and the detail of the design is simply extraordinary!

Palau de la Música Catalana

The Palau de la Música Catalana is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's an exceptional example of the Modernisme architecture style and is well worth exploring if you’re buying return airfare to Barcelona.

Casa Batllo

Casa Batllo is another of Gaudi's masterpieces and is a must-visit for architecture aficionados buying airfare to Barcelona. Admire the gorgeous facade from the street, or head inside to see the elaborate Entrance Hall, the Patio of Lights, an indoor garden and more. If you want the place all to yourself, you can buy a ticket that will grant you access before it opens to the general public.

Barcelona Cathedral

The Barcelona Cathedral is located in the Gothic Quarter of the city. It's one of the most popular attractions on the itineraries of visitors travelling flights to Barcelona, not only for its history but for the views it offers of the city around it. If you want to go inside, tickets cost EUR 7 ($12.07 NZD). Those wanting to snap photos of the Cathedral without too many other tourists in the foreground should time their visit for sunrise.

Airports

Airports in Barcelona

There are three airports in Barcelona. Choosing the best one to fly into all depends on your budget, where you want to stay and how much time you have in the city.

Barcelona–El Prat Airport

El Prat is the city's main airport. It's the second largest in the country and is located 12 km from Barcelona's city centre. The airport is a hub for budget airline Ryanair as well as EasyJet and Vueling.

If you take a taxi from El Prat into the city, it will cost around EUR 25, and you'll have to pay a supplement of EUR 3.10.

Public transportation options from the airport include the RENFE train for EUR 3 and the Aerobus express service for EUR 5.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport

Girona-Costa Airport is serviced by budget airlines. Flights are cheaper, but you'll have a longer journey time into the city as the airport is 91 km from Barcelona.

To get to the city, hop on board one of the local buses. A round trip will cost EUR 21 and take 1hr 15min. There is also a train service, and you have the option to rent a car.

Reus Airport

Another budget-friendly option is Reus Airport. Located 75 km from Barcelona, the airport is also a base for RyanAir and offers lower flight prices.

To get into Barcelona, you can take the bus with a company called Hispano Igualadina. Fares cost EUR 23, and it will take around 90 minutes to reach the city centre.

You can also rent a car, but it's not recommended if you're travelling on a tight budget.
